Interim Financial Assistant Position
Interim full time hour position (35hrs/wk) with possibility for Full Time Permanent in the future.
PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Finance Assistant will support UNFC’s operations by providing financial administrative and clerical services to ensure effective, efficient, and accurate financial and administrative operations. A key part of the role is ensuring daily tasks are achieved accurately and efficiently, meeting weekly, monthly, and annual deadlines for Payroll, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. This position follows generally accepted accounting principles and is administered through policies and procedures and applicable legislation, as well as clerical support in all aspects of the financial administration for the United Native Friendship Centre.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Diploma in Accounting, Commerce and/or Business Administration
2 years’ experience in finance and/or accounting position
A sound understanding of accounting principles and guidelines.
Experience/training with computerized accounting and financial reporting
Experience with Sage Intact, Purchasing, AP and AR
Experience with purchases, billings, Invoices and payment processing,
Transaction monitoring, tracking and financial record keeping
Possess analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and data management skills
Proficient in Excel at an Intermediate level
Experience working with an Indigenous organization is an asset
Experience working with Indigenous culture and traditions
Payroll Administration (currently Dayforce)
Database experience including entitlement tracking (45-50+ employees)
Must adhere to a high degree of confidentiality
Accepting of Indigenous practices of culture and traditions (i.e.smudging, drumming, ceremonies, etc.)
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:|
Carry out finance activities including accounts payables, account receivables, payroll, administration support, reconciliation, filing and general support
Coordinate and execute financial transactions and activities, such as bill payments, invoices, expense reimbursements and bank deposits
Issue purchase requests and tracking backup for receipt of goods and services
Issue receivable invoices, track payment and issue statements
Prepares billings for outgoing payments
Monitor credit card usage through monthly statement retrieval, reconciliation tasks, and coding to support expenditure reports
Support the payments processes and reconciliation
Ensures all travel advances are reconciled and submitted in a timely manner
Ensuring financial transactions are properly recorded and entered into system
Payroll Administration, calculate and process information within a schedule
Determine pay and benefit entitlements for employees
Keeping Payroll data, maintaining adequate records
Support employees with receiving Pay statements and T4’s
Update and maintain financial data, records and files as required
Track financial transactions to reconcile information and resolve discrepancies
Assist with compiling financial spreadsheets, reports and statements
Provide support to employees related to payroll and purchasing issues
Ensures all procedures and policies of the UNFC are followed
Ensure confidentiality, orderly maintenance and security of financial records
Assist with audit preparation by compiling and checking all required documentation
Bring issues to the attention of the Finance Manager in a timely manner
Work under tight timelines or changes in priorities and manage multiple deadlines
Assist with ensuring financial office supplies are maintained
Supports fundraising projects as required
Supports maintenance of physical inventory as required
